Hurricanes and tornadoes

Hurricanes and tornadoes

The Table shows information about two physically powerful winds, which are hurricanes and tornadoes. Also there are a lot common between them. However, they are rather different types of natural disasters.

To begin with, tornadoes have a slightly lower minimum speed but a much higher maximum speed of 40 mph, whereas that of a hurricane is 74 mph. The maximum wind speed of most severe storms of tornadoes is about 250 – 300 mph, while hurricanes slightly less within 155 – 200 mph. about the classification scale, hurricanes is classified on the Saffir – Simpson C1 – C5, whereas tornadoes is calculated on Fujita F0 – F5.Torndoes actually comes suddenly and his stay for a small period around few minutes, some up to a few hours, comparing with hurricanes, is stay for long 1 week. The prediction of hurricane is 2-3 days in advance for a wide area and its hit 6-10 hours beforehand, but tornadoes can be predicated just one minute before it hits. Tornadoes usually covered over land, while hurricanes began over warm oceans.

In brief, hurricanes are more predictable, also stay more than tornadoes and have less wind speed.

There are 2 important sides in an argument essay that I should explain.

First, the introduction should describe the argument. For example, nowadays most airlines ban smoking.

In the second paragraph, write the opposite to my idea. For example, some people exploit their freedom and personality.

In the third paragraph, write in favor of my idea. For example, everyone has his own freedom, but the purpose is to save your life from diseases that might change your health for the worse.

In conclusion, describe both sides of an argument, and show up your point. For example, I think panning smoking in public places is a good idea.

Argument essay

Smoking

Nowadays smoking has become a very popular issue. However, in my opinion, smoking is harmful to our health. And I believe that smoking will produce a lot of diseases and problems.

Some people defend smoking for many reasons. First, they believe that smoking keeps them in the best condition and makes them feel comfortable. For example, many people like to smoke when they are playing cards with friends or before they go to work. Moreover, I can see that some people exploit the freedom in smoking in their private places, such as in the home. So they have their own money to spend as they like. Another statement is some people think that smoking keeps them comfortable when they feel worry and anxiety about something.

On the other hand, while I can appreciate the argument about feeling comfortable, an important point is that smoking is really dangerous and it can affect our body. Smoking is a major cause of lung cancer, heart disease and hardening of the arteries. The other argument is about freedom and feeling relaxing effects, so the smoker exploits his freedom and his right, and I disagree with them. The Ministry of Health forced any commercial companies to write down the main effects of smoking to get rid of its troubles.

The personal freedom and rights must be respected, but on the other hand, the health is life and everyone hopes to live without diseases. To protect our society we should discourage people from smoking.

Reflection 2

compare and contrast

Our teacher told us how to write the compare and contrast between two things to know what is the best between the two.

The first paragraph is about the two things and what is the relationship between them (general idea). This has to be in 50 words.

The second paragraph talks about the similarities between the two things (at least 3 similarities) and it will be better if you add some examples and you can put it in 50 words.

The third paragraph talks about the differences (at least 3 differences) between the two things and it will show the details that you want to know and you can put it in 50 words.

In the conclusion you have to show what is more, the similarities or the differences and talk about your opinion and what do you prefer. This can be in 50 words.

Describing graphs

There are three main paragraphs, and they consist of an introduction with 25 words, and the body, around 100 words, and finally the conclusion, about 25 words.

We began with a pie graph, and then we continued with bar graphs, tables & line graphs.

From the line graph about the rush hour and the busy times on the London Underground, I got some examples and useful vocabulary from the web site (HD1 common year).

It’s not all about explaining and describing the graphs, but also about comparing the major things.

City Growth

The graph shows information about the population between 1950 and 2015, and it’s represented in steady stages until five years time, 2015.

It’s clear that the only city whose population dropped is London as shown in the chart, starting with 8M in 1950 to around 7M in 2000.It will have the same population in 2015. New York’s population increased steadily between 1950, which are about 12M, and in 2000 around 16M and it will grow to 17M in 2015. The other seven cities rose dramatically. Cairo began with 2.5M in 1950 and is forecast to arrive at 14M in 2015. From 3M in 1950, Mexico city is forecast to reach 19M in 2015.Shanghal is forecast to reach about 15M , from 5M in 2015, and Sao Paolo 20M in 2015 , from about 2.5M in 1950. Tokyo and Bombay are reaching the top 25M, from 7M and 3.5M respectively. Finally, the most massive rise is Lagos, from less than one million in 1950 to reach 23M in 2015.

London is the only city to decline in population 1950-2015. New York has a steady rise, and the other seven cities all have a massive growth.

Traffic congestion + parking problems in A.D.

Most cities worldwide face traffic and parking problems. Abu Dhabi is one of those cities which faces a parking problem. There are a lot of engineers trying to solve this complex case and to figure out the solutions.

There are several reasons for difficulties to find parking that will produce a lot of traffic congestion in our city. Firstly, the most significant reason is the growth of the population in the last few years. Therefore, the consequences of that are the numbers of cars are increasing every year, so most roads are used by the drivers and the traffic congestion has risen sharply. In addition, more young people get licenses without enough driving experience. There are more trucks inside Abu Dhabi city which affects the traffic congestion and keeps the flow of cars slow. Another important factor is Abu Dhabi’s quick development and increasing in the number of buildings without sufficient underground parking.

There are some suggestions and solutions to solve this kind of parking problem ; one is to improve the existing roads, by constructing bridges, tunnels, underpasses and overpasses. Moreover, the public transport is the best solution in my opinion, because it’s very cheap, clean and with good air conditioning. Another great solution is paid parking to reduce the parking problem, because there are a lot of people who have many cars and leave their cars for a long time.

The best solution I think is the public transport and absolutely it works in Abu Dhabi city and it’s a small island and it cuts the time. Also there are more buses available in Abu Dhabi city nowadays.
