City Growth

The graph shows information about the population between 1950 and 2015, and it’s represented in steady stages until five years time, 2015.

It’s clear that the only city whose population dropped is London as shown in the chart, starting with 8M in 1950 to around 7M in 2000.It will have the same population in 2015. New York’s population increased steadily between 1950, which are about 12M, and in 2000 around 16M and it will grow to 17M in 2015. The other seven cities rose dramatically. Cairo began with 2.5M in 1950 and is forecast to arrive at 14M in 2015. From 3M in 1950, Mexico city is forecast to reach 19M in 2015.Shanghal is forecast to reach about 15M , from 5M in 2015, and Sao Paolo 20M in 2015 , from about 2.5M in 1950. Tokyo and Bombay are reaching the top 25M, from 7M and 3.5M respectively. Finally, the most massive rise is Lagos, from less than one million in 1950 to reach 23M in 2015.

London is the only city to decline in population 1950-2015. New York has a steady rise, and the other seven cities all have a massive growth.

Traffic congestion + parking problems in A.D.

Most cities worldwide face traffic and parking problems. Abu Dhabi is one of those cities which faces a parking problem. There are a lot of engineers trying to solve this complex case and to figure out the solutions.

There are several reasons for difficulties to find parking that will produce a lot of traffic congestion in our city. Firstly, the most significant reason is the growth of the population in the last few years. Therefore, the consequences of that are the numbers of cars are increasing every year, so most roads are used by the drivers and the traffic congestion has risen sharply. In addition, more young people get licenses without enough driving experience. There are more trucks inside Abu Dhabi city which affects the traffic congestion and keeps the flow of cars slow. Another important factor is Abu Dhabi’s quick development and increasing in the number of buildings without sufficient underground parking.

There are some suggestions and solutions to solve this kind of parking problem ; one is to improve the existing roads, by constructing bridges, tunnels, underpasses and overpasses. Moreover, the public transport is the best solution in my opinion, because it’s very cheap, clean and with good air conditioning. Another great solution is paid parking to reduce the parking problem, because there are a lot of people who have many cars and leave their cars for a long time.

The best solution I think is the public transport and absolutely it works in Abu Dhabi city and it’s a small island and it cuts the time. Also there are more buses available in Abu Dhabi city nowadays.
